My Campus

UB_DroitLettres

The Campus of Dijon was created in 1722 and is located in the periphery of Dijon (Burgondy). The campus contain ten Faculty, Law and Political Sciences, Language and Communication, Literature and Philosophy, Medicine, Pharmacy, Economics and Management Science, Humanities, Life Sciences, Earth and Environment, Sport Sciences (STAPS), Science and Technology. There are not all located at the same place but still belongs to the campus. I'm currently doing a bachelor's degree in Literature and Philosophy. The campus is quite big, especially when you came from a small town, but you will easily find your way to the differents hallway and corridors that are part of each buildings. When you're new it may appear difficult to go from classes to classes, with all this passages and places you're not familliar with but, by looking up at the (very well placed) informations boards, you can pretend to arrive early in class. However, the campus is not fully occupied by educational buildings. You can find, if you look close, some others kind of buildings, like the awesome library we have where you can fnde all sorts of books to help you get through the year without loosing your mind, but we also have some unique things, like the "ateneum" witch is a well-elabored place where you can enjoy the taste of a cold beer or a hot chocolate between two classes. In the fourth floor of the extension, we also have a wonderful room full of DVDs we can watch before going to class. Well, the campus may appear big when you first arrive there, but you can always manage to find your way without getting lost in it.

Dijon, a place of fun and entertainment.

At the university, there are countless entertainments. The student life is underlined by the different activities in the campus and outside. In fact, there are many student parties which are organized. Those parties can be organized by their own faculty association and creates new relationship. You can walk across the city, finding new bar and having a great moment in an instant in Dijon. Moreover there's a special place here, the Berbizet street, which is by far the funniest and bustling place in Dijon for students. Also, cultural event aren't placed alongside the road, since there's many major place here where you can enjoy a good theatre, nice bands or epic concerto. I think of "la vapeur"

; there, many underrated bands come and enjoy performing their plays.

Dijon - Auditorium

"L'auditorium" like "le Zenith" are garguantuan performance hall where you can find most of the time, amazing artists and dance troupe, unfortunately  at an heavy price. Also you can access to some shopping places in the downtown and at the periphery. As an exemple, the "Toison-d'or"shopping center (a huge one, for sure.) gather the most important fashion brands for everyone, such as ZARA or NAF-NAF. To conclude, Dijon is rather a pretty nice city from the time you know where to go and what to do.

My classes

Some advices from students who have been in your place

cours

As a student in second year of languages' sciences, I have to catch up some classes of the first year. I failed in some classes like the French and general linguistics, I failed English and one of my option of the first semester. But i was able to obtain the second. I am considered as "AJAC" (that means that I can follow second year's classes even if i didn' pass all the classes last year), and I wish to say to you that you should not loose hope and not quit just because you might face difficulties. We can always catch up the year. I try to be present has almost all the classes. I have to do more than my classmates who are already in second year. I go to the campus by the time of 9:00 am and only left for 20 p.m, and , I have to go there also some time on Saturdays mornings. But when we are motivated I think that can succeed as well as the other students who passed their first year even if it is true that we are a little disadvantaged. The administration convinced me that i was able to go on the second years. So, everything is possible with the motivation and the work.

Amandine

As a repeater i'd like to give a little piece of advice to all my classmates this year, do not skip classes. Trust me. That's what brought me here today. Some classes might be difficult to understand, like linguistics and all the classes that are about French vocabulary and grammar, but this classes are the highest point of our program this year. If you listen well and be careful to what our teachers are desperately trying to teach us you will be able to pass this year like a boss. Compare to last year, when I was already here in SLIC, I must say that the administration put all their efforts to make the program understable for us. Last year was the first try and I have to say that we faced some difficulties, especially with the choosing of our options, this year we didn't had to rush to blackboard like animals to sign up for the options we wanted so bad. Communication classes are, in my opinion the best, but some people (fools to me if you want to know) prefer the linguistics classes. They may be right, how can we pretend to learn a new language when we don't even know our own, but still, I'm not a big fan of French grammar. A few new teachers had come to swell the ranks and I must say that having some different point of view than last year might be a good thing, we learn new ways to understand the programming and the different classes. Well, i 'll end this speech by saying that yes, some classes might appear difficult to you but you have to hang on, I heard that the second's year program is way more hard than this year, but it's worth the price. Stay focus, come to every classes, even when they are at 9 a.m, study by yourself, come to the wonderful library we have, and everything will end up well.

My everyday life

Outside the classroom, the students live. Between finding places to eat and places to accommodate, we must always be ready to catch a good deal.

As far as this is concerned food, there are various places where we can eat when we are students: the university refectory, the cafeterias, kebabs and many bakeries which offer reasonable prices for students.

However the meals are often not well-balanced: indeed the meals are eaten very quickly because we are few much time to eat. To overcome this problem the universities refectories suggest different meals more well-balanced than in cafeterias or bakeries.

As far as this is concerned lodging, it is also varying that for food: some students live in hall of residence, others live alone in apartments or with others students, and at last still others live with their family, parents most often.

However the price of lodging is a significant cost in the student’s budget, in spite of financials assistants of different bodies. That is why is very difficult for students to find an acceptable flat with an affordable price: we can speak of “war housing”.
